Storage can... People have been asking and talking about adding battery storage to their solar PV systems in our cities for a very long time. In fact some of the earliest uses of solar PV was in "off-grid" locations like outback homes and remote communications towers decades ago as well as in space.
Adding storage to a grid connected solar PV system can:
increase self consumption - a battery can increase the electricity self consumption from your solar PV array by allowing you to use that energy at night, rather than exporting all the surplus generation to the grid. (see below for video from SolarEdge)
